It is an evening in 1965. Sitting at the Bar Italia, in the popular Square “Piazzetta delle Poveracce’s”, Saura Stianti and Giovanni Santolini, grandchildren of fish merchants for several generations, decide to open a small quality-restaurant.
It will be housed in a small 19th-century house in Via Santa Chiara, two steps from the Augustus Arch, and will be called “Dallo Zio”, which is Giovanni’s nickname. For a quarter of a century, Saura will personally take care of the restaurant’s kitchen, which will serve the freshest fish, cooked according to the most genuine Romagna seafood tradition. The restaurant will be frequented and appreciated by numerous personalities from the Riviera, from Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina to Michelangelo Antonioni, from Gino Paoli to Lucio Battisti, from Rossella Falk to Beppe Grillo, from Riccardo Muti to Roman Vlad.
In December 2003, chef Giuliano Canzian, a graduate of the hotel management school and with experience in various restaurants in the Rimini area, took over this now historic restaurant and carefully restored it, determined to restore it to its former glory but also to significantly innovate the gastronomic line. Today, as in 1965, the cuisine of Ristorante Dallo Zio offers dishes prepared with the best local ingredients. The cuisine is mainly seafood, but does not forget its own country traditions and the products of the nearby countryside. It recovers the flavours of the past and re-proposes them in a simple but carefully version.
